Veterinary health certificate in country of origin: €50–200 depending on country. Notarised Russian translation of documents: ₸5,000–15,000. Air Astana in-cabin pet fee: ₸10,000–25,000. Cargo/hold transport: ₸30,000–80,000. Veterinary inspection at Kazakhstani border: included in standard border procedures (no additional fee for compliant documentation). Quarantine hold if documents are incomplete: ₸5,000–15,000/day.
📋 Relocation Process
Step 1: Implant ISO 11784/11785 microchip (15-digit FDXB) — must be done BEFORE the rabies vaccination. Step 2: Administer rabies vaccination at least 21 days before travel. Step 3: Treat for fleas, ticks, and intestinal parasites within 30 days before travel. Step 4: Obtain official international health certificate from a government-accredited veterinarian in the country of origin, no more than 5 days before travel — in EU format or Kazakhstan-specific Form F1 with Russian translation. Step 5: Apostille the health certificate if required by the issuing country. Step 6: Obtain notarised Russian translation of all documents. Step 7: At the Kazakhstani port of entry, present all original documents to the veterinary border control post (Государственная ветеринарная инспекция). The inspector will examine the animal and documents. Step 8: After entry, register with a local veterinarian and obtain a Kazakhstani vaccination record (ветеринарный паспорт).
All veterinary documents must be in Russian or have notarised Russian translations — English-only documents will not be accepted at the border. Pit Bulls, American Staffordshire Terriers, and other breeds in the 2022 "Dangerous Dogs" regulations are prohibited or heavily restricted — verify the current restricted breeds list before relocating. Exotic pets (parrots, reptiles, primates) require CITES permits and additional documentation — allow 3–6 months for this process. FlyArystan (budget carrier) does NOT allow pets. Air Astana, Turkish Airlines, and major European carriers allow pets in cabin (small breeds under 8kg including carrier) or as cargo — book at time of ticket purchase. Pet insurance is limited in Kazakhstan — international policies covering Kazakhstan are recommended.
