Extensive network of marked hiking trails (chodníky) across all Slovak mountain ranges maintained by Klub slovenských turistov (KST). Volunteering (dobrovoľníctvo) is growing in Slovakia, especially since EU membership brought new civic society frameworks. Bratislava has a particularly active volunteer sector including refugee support, environmental, and cultural organisations.
Tax Benefit
Slovakia allows a 2% tax designation (asignácia dane) — instead of paying the designated 2% of income tax to the state, you can redirect it to a registered non-profit organisation (nezisková organizácia, nadácia, or OZ — občianske združenie). This is done on your tax return and is an important funding mechanism for Slovak civil society. If you volunteer at least 40 hours per year for an organisation, you can increase the donation to 3%.
