Cyprus (CY)

Valid passport required for entry. EU citizens may use national ID cards. Non-EU citizens must carry their passport at all times.

Registration Certificate for EU citizens residing in Cyprus. MEU1 for stays of up to 5 years (issued by Civil Registry and Migration Department — CRMD). MEU3 is the Permanent Residence Certificate issued after 5 years of lawful residence.

Residence permit for non-EU citizens. Issued by the Civil Registry and Migration Department (CRMD). Various categories: Category E (employee), Category F (self-employed), Category F (financially independent). Required within 3 months of arrival.

Obtained from the District Labour Office (Τμήμα Εργασίας). Required for employment, accessing social insurance benefits and pension rights. Usually arranged by employer for employees.

Tax registration number (ΑΦΜ) from the Tax Department (Τμήμα Φορολογίας). Required for all tax purposes, employment, business registration and banking. Apply online via TaxisNet Cyprus portal.

Registration with the General Healthcare System (Γενικό Σύστημα Υγείας — ΓεΣΥ). Register via the GESY portal (gesy.org.cy) to access the public healthcare system. Requires TIC and valid residence status.

Required for GESY dependant registration, school enrolment, marriage registration and citizenship applications. Cyprus is a Hague Apostille member; foreign birth certificates from Hague member countries require apostille plus certified Greek translation. Documents from non-Hague countries require consular legalisation plus translation.

Required for spouse visa applications, joint tax filings, and family GESY registration. Must be apostilled and translated into Greek if issued abroad.

Required for residence permit applications and some employment categories (especially with children or vulnerable people). Must be obtained from the home country and apostilled.

Required for MEU1/ARC applications, GESY registration, bank account opening, and mortgage applications. Must specify salary, working hours, and job title.

Required for regulated profession registration and some employment visa categories. Cyprus is a Hague Apostille member; apostille and certified Greek translation required. Academic qualification recognition is processed by KYSATS (Cyprus Agency of Quality Assurance and Accreditation in Higher Education). Engineering recognition is handled by ETEK (Technical Chamber of Cyprus). Healthcare professions require Medical Council of Cyprus registration.

Required for non-EU residence permit applications for financially independent persons (Category F). Must show minimum coverage of €30,000 per year.

Utility bill, rental contract, or official letter showing Cyprus address. Required for bank account opening, CRMD applications, and TIC registration. Must be dated within 3 months.

Issued by the Department of Road Transport. Required to drive legally. Foreign vehicles must be re-registered within 3 months of establishing residence. UK vehicles: 6 months grace period for UK licence holders.
