EU Citizens

EU/EEA citizens have full right to work in Cyprus. Register with CRMD (MEU1) within 3 months and obtain a Social Insurance Number from the District Labour Office. No work permit required.

Non-EU Citizens

Non-EU citizens require a work permit before starting employment. The employer typically sponsors the permit. Categories: Category E for specific employment. Processing time: 6–12 weeks. Highly skilled roles and shortage occupations processed faster.

EU Blue Card

Cyprus participates in the EU Blue Card scheme. Requirements: recognised university degree + job offer with minimum salary of €43,632/year (approximately €3,636/month, 2026 threshold; reduced to 80% for shortage occupations and recent graduates). Valid for 2 years, renewable. Leads to permanent residence after 5 years.

Freelancer Visa

Non-EU freelancers/digital nomads can apply for a Digital Nomad Visa (Category F — Self-Employed) allowing them to live and work remotely in Cyprus for up to 1 year, renewable. Must show proof of remote income (€3,500+/month), health insurance, and accommodation.

Typical hours 8:00–17:00 or 9:00–18:00 with a lunch break of 1–1.5 hours. Afternoon siesta hours observed by some sectors and local businesses.

Annual leave 20 days minimum per year (statutory). Many employers offer 21–25 days. Public holidays on top.
