Digital Services
Digital ID, e-government and essential apps in Denmark.
MitID
Denmark's national digital identity system — replaced NemID on 1 November 2022. MitID is used to log in to all Danish government portals, banks, insurance companies, pension providers and most digital services. Without MitID, you cannot access e-Boks, SKAT, Borger.dk, your bank or any official Danish digital service.
How to get it: 1. Get your CPR number first. 2. Apply for MitID at mitid.dk or via your bank's digital onboarding. 3. Verify identity in person at a borgerservice office or digitally using a valid passport/national ID with chip. 4. Install the MitID app and activate using the provided codes. The process takes approximately 15 minutes if done digitally.
E-Government Portal
https://www.borger.dkBorger.dk is Denmark's central citizens' portal — exceptionally well-designed with Danish and partial English. Most services require MitID. For business services, Virk.dk is the equivalent portal. The Danish government has set a target of 100% digital services.

e-Boks
FreeMandatory digital post box. All official correspondence from government agencies (SKAT, Udbetaling Danmark, SIRI), banks, pension providers and utilities is sent here. Missing e-Boks means missing legally received government letters.
MobilePay
FreeDenmark's dominant mobile payment app used by 90%+ of the population. Pay at markets, restaurants and between friends. Requires a Danish bank account and Danish phone number.

FreeThe national patient portal — view health records, order EHIC, book GP appointments and access test results. Login with MitID.

FreeDenmark's official journey planner covering all public transport — trains, metro, buses. Real-time schedules and disruption information. Available in English.

Denmark is one of the world's most digitalised countries. The Digital Post Act (Lov om Digital Post) makes e-Boks mandatory for all residents with a CPR number over 15 years old — failure to activate means government letters are legally considered received even if unread. The NemKonto system links your bank account to your CPR so that all state payments (tax refunds, benefits) go automatically to the right account.
