✈️ Visa-Free Access
EU/EEA/Swiss citizens can live and work in Denmark freely — no visa or work permit required. They must register at SIRI within 3 months (EU residence certificate). Citizens of the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, UK (post-Brexit), and most Western countries can visit Denmark visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180-day period (Schengen rules). For stays exceeding 90 days or to work, an appropriate permit is required. Check siri.dk for the current list of countries requiring visas.
All non-EU/EEA immigration to Denmark is handled by SIRI (Styrelsen for International Rekruttering og Integration — siri.dk). Applications are made online. The New to Denmark portal (nyidanmark.dk) is the official information source. Denmark has noticeably tightened its immigration rules over the past decade — family reunification in particular has strict requirements. For work immigration, the Pay Limit Scheme and Fast-Track Scheme are the most used routes. NOTE: Denmark does NOT participate in the EU Blue Card scheme — Denmark opted out under Protocol 22 to the EU Treaties (justice and home affairs opt-out). The Pay Limit Scheme (DKK 448,000+/year) is Denmark's functional equivalent for attracting highly paid talent. Denmark is NOT part of the Eurozone but IS a Schengen member, so travel across most of Europe is unrestricted for residents with valid permits.
EU Registration Certificate
EU/EEA/Swiss citizens staying in Denmark for more than 3 months for work, study, self-employment, or self-sufficiency.
Same day or within a few working days at a borgerservice or SIRI office.

Researcher / Graduate Scheme
Researchers and guest researchers at Danish research institutions, universities, and qualifying R&D companies. Also: Recent non-EU/EEA graduates from Danish universities may apply for a 2-year job-seeking permit.

Family Reunification
Spouses/partners and minor children of Danish citizens or permanent residents. Subject to strict requirements including accommodation, self-support, and sometimes age and language requirements.

- ✓Sponsor must not have received social assistance recently
- ✓Spouse/partner is typically 24+ years old (the 24-year rule)

Student Permit
Non-EU/EEA nationals enrolled in a full-time education programme at a Danish higher education institution.

No Dedicated Digital Nomad Visa (Denmark)
Digital NomadDenmark has no dedicated digital nomad visa as of 2026. EU/EEA/Swiss citizens can live and work remotely in Denmark freely — register at SIRI within 3 months. Non-EU remote workers working for foreign companies have no dedicated digital nomad route: they must qualify for a standard work permit such as the Pay Limit Scheme (DKK 448,000+/year annual salary with a Danish employer) or establish a Danish business.
EU/EEA registration: same day at borgerservice. Non-EU Pay Limit Scheme: 4–6 weeks.
