Pakistan (PK)
Pakistan is South Asia's second-largest country and a land of extraordinary contrasts — from the towering Karakoram peaks in the north to the bustling port city of Karachi on the Arabian Sea.
Social Security in Pakistan
Benefits, contributions, and how the system works for expats.
Pakistan does not provide a comprehensive expat-facing social-security system. Protection is mainly employer benefits, provident funds, gratuity, private insurance and home-country coverage. Formal employees may be covered by EOBI for old-age benefits and by provincial social security schemes for health and short-term benefits.
NTN / EOBI registration / passport-based records
National Tax Number (NTN)
NTN is registered with FBR (Federal Board of Revenue) where required. EOBI registration is initiated by the employer for eligible workers.

Contribution Overview
Payroll deductions are mainly income tax (under Income Tax Ordinance 2001), EOBI (employer 5% + employee 1% of federal minimum wage PKR 40,000/month = PKR 2,000 + PKR 400), provincial social security (province-specific rates), provident fund where offered, and employer-specific benefits. There is no equivalent to a uniform national social insurance contribution covering all risks. Source: EOBI (eobi.gov.pk), FBR (fbr.gov.pk), verified 2026.
International Social Security Agreements
Pakistan has limited social-security totalisation agreements. Most expats maintain home-country pension/NI/Social Security planning independently. Some bilateral labour agreements exist with Gulf states and other countries but do not typically provide contribution portability for pension purposes. Confirm with your home-country pension authority.
Because public benefits are limited for foreigners, arrange private health, disability, life, evacuation and retirement planning before arrival. Download EOBI and payroll records from your employer before departure.
