Bulgaria's most significant 2026 change is euro adoption on 1 January 2026 — the BGN is no longer a separate currency, having converted at the fixed rate of BGN 1.95583 = EUR 1.00. All financial planning, contracts, and tax calculations now use EUR. The 10%/10%/5% tax rates remain some of the lowest in the EU and are unchanged. Note the restaurant VAT reversion: restaurants are now at the standard 20% rate (reverted in January 2025), not the old COVID-era 9% — only hotel/accommodation stays at 9%.
