Register at your local Labour Office (Дирекция "Бюро по труда") in person. Bring passport/ID, education certificates, and employment history. You will receive a registration card and access to job listings, training, and employment support services.

💼 Work Permits
EU/EEA citizens have full freedom of movement and work rights in Bulgaria. No work permit required. Must register address within 30 days and obtain EU registration certificate for stays over 3 months.
Non-EU citizens require a work permit before starting employment. The employer typically applies on the employee's behalf at the Employment Agency. Process takes 1–3 months. A Type D long-stay visa (90+ days) is required first, then a temporary residence permit.
EU Blue Card available for highly qualified non-EU workers. Requirements: recognised university degree + employment contract with minimum salary of 1.5x the average gross salary in Bulgaria (approximately BGN 4,017/month gross in 2026, ~€2,054/month or €23,500/year). Processed at Migration Directorate.
No specific digital nomad visa. Non-EU remote workers often use the tourist visa (90/180 days) or must establish a Bulgarian company (EOOD) to legally work long-term. EU citizens can work as freelancers after registering their self-employment with the NRA.
