🌍 Special Expat Tax Rules
Ecuadorian tax residence and immigration residence are separate. Residents can be taxed on foreign income, while non-residents are generally taxed on Ecuador-source income. Remote workers, retirees, landlords and cross-border business owners should track days, income source, treaty position, bank flows and home-country filing obligations.
📋 Double Tax Treaties
Ecuador has tax treaties with selected countries and participates in international information exchange. Treaty relief is not automatic; keep tax-residence certificates, withholding evidence and translated/apostilled documents where needed.
