Ecuador (EC)
Ecuador is one of the most popular expat countries in the Americas in 2026, especially for retirees, remote-income households, investors, teachers, entrepreneurs and families who want US-dollar living, affordable private healthcare, varied climates and established foreign-resident communities.
Visa & Immigration
Entry and residence options for Ecuador.
✈️ Visa-Free Access
Many nationalities, including US, Canadian, UK, EU/Schengen, Australian, New Zealand, Japanese and South Korean citizens, can enter Ecuador visa-free for tourism. The ordinary visitor allowance is commonly up to 90 days in a rolling year, with a possible extension in Ecuador when eligible. Visitor status is not permission for local employment or Ecuadorian-client work.
Ecuador visa practice in 2026 is document-sensitive. Criminal records, civil certificates and income letters often need apostille/legalisation and certified Spanish translation. The MREMH e-Visas portal is useful, but many expats still use a licensed Ecuadorian immigration lawyer for complex family, investor, professional or remote-work files. Keep immigration status, work permission, SRI tax registration, IESS and private health insurance as separate systems.
