Register online at francetravail.fr within 12 months of ending your last job to preserve your benefits. You will need your numéro de sécurité sociale, RIB, carte d'identité/passport, and your most recent work certificates (attestation employeur). A first appointment (entretien de situation) is scheduled within 30 days.

💼 Work Permits
EU/EEA/Swiss citizens can work freely in France without any permit. No registration is required, though you may need to declare your address to the commune for tax purposes if you stay more than 3 months.
Non-EU citizens need a visa long séjour valant titre de séjour (VLS-TS) with work authorisation, or a Carte de séjour (residence permit) permitting employment. Your employer must apply via the Service de la Main-d'Œuvre Étrangère (MOE) of the DREETS for authorisation to hire. Main categories: Salarié (CDI), Travailleur temporaire (CDD), Passeport Talent, ICT (intra-company transfer).
Carte bleue européenne (EU Blue Card): for non-EU university graduates with a job offer in France. Minimum gross salary in 2026: €59,373/year (confirmed by April 24, 2026 decree; represents a 4% increase and equals 1.5× the French reference wage). Initial validity up to 4 years, renewable, and counts towards the 5-year residency for permanent residence. Apply at the préfecture or online via ANEF (administration-etrangers-en-france.interieur.gouv.fr).
The Passeport Talent – Profession Libérale (for self-employed professionals) and Entrepreneur/Porteur de projet économique categories cover freelancers, consultants and entrepreneurs. Requires a viable business plan, diplomas, and monthly income of at least the SMIC (€1,823.03 gross/month from January 2026; €1,867.02 from June 2026). Validity up to 4 years.
