Qatar (QA)

Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended stay. Bring the original plus 4–6 photocopies — almost every government process requires copies. Keep a digital scan on your phone.

Required for QID applications, school enrolments and spouse/dependent visa applications. Qatar is NOT a member of the Hague Apostille Convention; apostille is NOT accepted as a valid authentication form. Foreign birth certificates must follow the full attestation chain: notarisation in the country of origin → home country Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) attestation → Qatar Embassy or Consulate in the home country → Qatar Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) attestation in Doha. Official Arabic translation by a certified translator required.

Required to add a spouse to residency and bring a spouse or family to Qatar. Qatar is NOT a Hague Apostille member; the full attestation chain is required: home country notarisation → home MFA → Qatar Embassy → Qatar MOFA. Non-Muslim marriages are recognised; same-sex marriages are not. Official Arabic translation required.

Required for each child's dependent visa and school admission. Qatar is NOT a Hague Apostille member; all foreign birth certificates require the full attestation chain (home country notarisation → home MFA → Qatar Embassy → Qatar MOFA). The father's name must appear on the certificate. Official Arabic translation required.

Must be attested by your home country's Ministry of Education, then the home country Ministry of Foreign Affairs, then the Qatar Embassy in your home country, and finally by MOFA Qatar. This 4-step attestation is mandatory for most professional licences and work visas.

Stamped and signed by your employer. Required for your work visa and QID application. Ensure it matches your visa category and salary details exactly.

Required from your home country and any country where you lived for 6 or more months in the past 5 years. Certificate must typically be recent (within 3–6 months of application).

All new residents and work visa holders must undergo a medical fitness test at a Qatar-approved hospital or clinic. Tests include blood tests (HIV, hepatitis B/C, TB, syphilis) and chest X-ray. Failure means visa denial. Done after arrival in Qatar at Hamad Medical Corporation or approved clinics.

Foreign driving licences valid for up to 7 days in Qatar. After that, a Qatari driving licence is required. GCC-issued licences can be exchanged directly. Many nationalities (US, UK, EU, AU, CA) can exchange without a test. Bring the original plus certified translation if not in Arabic/English.

Qatar mandates employer-provided health insurance under the NHIC (National Health Insurance Company) system. Keep your health card (Seha card) accessible at all times. Expats not covered by employers must obtain private NHIC-compliant insurance.

For regulated professions (doctors, nurses, engineers, lawyers, accountants), bring original and attested copies. Must go through the Qatar Council or relevant professional body for recognition. Attestation chain: home authority → home MFA → Qatar Embassy → MOFA Qatar.

Yellow fever vaccination certificate required if arriving from or transiting through yellow fever endemic countries. Keep general vaccination records for healthcare registration and school admission of children.

Last 3–6 months of bank statements sometimes required for visa applications (especially self-employed or freelance). Not universally required for employment visas but useful to have.
