- ✓ Learn Swedish even though most Swedes speak excellent English — it dramatically improves social integration, employment prospects, and understanding of daily life. Register for SFI (free) immediately.
- ✓ Join a sports club (idrottsförening) or activity association (förening) — Swedish social life is highly organised around associations, and this is how many Swedes make friends.
- ✓ Fika with colleagues — always accept invitations to fika. It is a key Swedish bonding ritual and declining repeatedly will make you seem antisocial.

Children's sports (barnidrottt) are highly subsidised by municipalities — virtually every child participates in some organised sport. Fritidskortet (leisure card) subsidises activity costs for lower-income families.
