Andorra itself charges no pet import fee. Main costs: rabies vaccination (€30–60), EU/international pet passport (€30–60), microchip implantation if not already done (€25–50), veterinary health certificate if coming from non-EU country (€80–200 including vet consult). Annual costs in Andorra: vet consultation (€40–80), annual vaccination booster (€60–100), pet insurance (€20–80/month for dogs). Dog licence/registration with parish Comú: €10–30/year. Flea/tick/worm treatment (quarterly): €30–60.
📋 Relocation Process
Step 1 — Ensure microchip is implanted (ISO 11784/11785 standard — 15-digit). Step 2 — Vaccinate against rabies (after microchip, not before). Step 3 — Obtain EU Pet Passport if travelling from an EU/EEA country — your EU vet issues this. Step 4 — If travelling from a non-listed (third) country: obtain veterinary health certificate from an official government vet, apostilled if required. Step 5 — Travel to Andorra via Spain or France — border customs checks may inspect pet documentation (particularly rabies vaccination status). Step 6 — Register your pet with your parish Comú (mandatory for dogs; recommended for cats). Step 7 — Find a local Andorran vet for ongoing care — Andorra has several veterinary clinics in Andorra la Vella, Escaldes-Engordany, and other parishes.
Andorra is not a Schengen area country. When travelling with pets from Andorra to Spain or France (even for a day trip), your pet must meet that country's import requirements — for EU citizens returning to an EU country with an EU-passported pet, this is generally straightforward. For UK nationals: post-Brexit, the UK is a "listed country" for pet travel, meaning the GB Animal Health Certificate (AHC) system applies for UK→EU→Andorra travel; allow at least 10 days before travel for the AHC process. Ticks are a real hazard in Andorra's mountain environment — monthly tick prevention treatment is strongly recommended year-round. The Pyrenean mountain tick (Ixodes ricinus) is a Lyme disease vector. Dogs must be on a lead in all urban areas and in the mountain trails in Andorra. Off-lead dog areas (zones d'esbarjo per a gossos) exist in some parishes — check your Comú for locations. Bringing pets from outside Europe (USA, Canada, Australia): ensure the rabies titre test (RNAT/FAVN) is done at an EU-approved laboratory if required by your route country; Andorra itself does not mandate a titre test for pets with valid documentation, but Spain and France as transit countries do if the pet's origin country is unlisted.
