Indonesia (ID)

Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond intended stay. Required for all visa applications, KITAS applications, banking, property transactions, and major official dealings. Keep a certified photocopy stored separately from the original.

Temporary Residence Stay Permit — the primary residency document for foreigners in Indonesia. Employer-sponsored KITAS tied to one employer; Social/Cultural KITAS or Second Home Visa KITAS for non-workers. Must be carried or accessible at all times. Required for opening bank accounts, NPWP, BPJS enrollment, driving licence conversion, and property lease.

Permanent Residence Stay Permit — available after 5 consecutive years of KITAS. Renewable every 5 years. Grants broader rights than KITAS including freedom to change employers. Required documents: KITAS history, clean police record, language evidence.

Tax Identification Number — mandatory for residents earning above the annual income threshold (Rp60 million/year). Required for opening bank accounts, processing property transactions, import/export, applying for business licences, and high-value financial transactions. Apply at nearest DJP Pratama tax office or online via pajak.go.id.

Certificate of reporting presence to local police (Polsek/Polres). Required within 30 days of arrival for KITAS holders. Some landlords request this when renting. Issued by local police sub-district (Polsek) upon presentation of KITAS, passport, and local address documentation.

Required for enrolling children in school, applying for family reunification KITAS (dependent KITAS), enrolling in BPJS Kesehatan as family member, and marriage-related applications. Must be apostilled and translated into Indonesian (Bahasa Indonesia) by a sworn translator (penerjemah tersumpah).

Required for dependent KITAS applications, property ownership under spouse, and family benefit applications. Must be apostilled if issued abroad. Indonesian translation by sworn translator required.

Surat Keterangan Catatan Kepolisian — Indonesian police clearance for foreigners. Required for KITAP applications, certain work permit (IMTA) applications, adoption applications, and long-term visa extensions. Apply at Polres (District Police) with KITAS, passport, and photos.

Clearance from your home country police, required for Second Home Visa applications, KITAP, and some work permit sponsorships. Must be apostilled and translated into Indonesian.

Employer-sponsored KITAS requires original employment contract from the Indonesian company sponsoring the work permit. Must clearly state position, salary (minimum USD 1,500/month), and duration. Used for RPTKA/IMTA applications.

Manpower Utilisation Plan for Foreign Workers — document issued by Ministry of Manpower (Kemnaker) approving the employer's plan to hire a foreign national for a specific role. Prerequisite for IMTA work permit. Obtained by the employing company before KITAS application.

Work Permit for Foreign Workers — issued by Ministry of Manpower after RPTKA approval. Required for all foreigners working legally in Indonesia under employment KITAS. Employer obtains IMTA; employee receives KITAS. Annual fee applies.

Required for work permit RPTKA/IMTA applications. Foreign degrees must be evaluated by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (Kemendikti Saintek — established October 2024, formerly Kemendikbud Ristek). Indonesia joined the Hague Apostille Convention in June 2022 — apostille is now the correct process for documents from Hague member countries. Some regulated professions require additional verification by professional bodies.

International health insurance policy certificate required for Second Home Visa and Digital Nomad Visa (E33G) applications. Also needed for some private hospital enrolments. Must cover medical evacuation in Indonesia.

Last 3 months' bank statements required for Digital Nomad Visa (proof of USD 2,000/month income) and Second Home Visa. Also needed for property purchase processes. Must be authenticated by bank.

Health insurance membership card issued by BPJS Kesehatan upon enrolment. Required to access government hospitals (puskesmas, RSUD) under JKN system. Digital card available in Mobile JKN app. Always carry when seeking medical treatment.

SIM A for cars (four-wheel vehicles), SIM C for motorcycles. Required for all legal driving in Indonesia. International Driving Permit (IDP) valid initially but must convert to Indonesian SIM within 30 days of KITAS issuance. Apply at local Polres/Satlantas or Samsat office.

Various notarial deeds required for company formation (PT PMA — Articles of Association), property purchase (AJB — Sale and Purchase Deed), and last will and testament (Akta Wasiat). Must be executed by a licensed Indonesian Notaris PPAT.
