🏛️ Social Contributions
Mandatory national health insurance — Jaminan Kesehatan Nasional (JKN). Covers GP, specialist, hospitalisation, surgery, and delivery. Cap applies at salary ceiling Rp12 × UMP/month. KITAS holders enrolled through employer.
Jaminan Hari Tua — old age savings fund. Lump sum payable at age 56, permanent disability, or on leaving Indonesia permanently. Withdrawable in full by expats departing permanently.
Jaminan Pensiun — monthly pension benefit after minimum 15 years of contributions at retirement age (57 rising to 65). Expats departing before vesting receive lump sum refund after 10-year waiting period.
Jaminan Kecelakaan Kerja — work accident and occupational disease coverage. Rate varies by industry risk classification. Employer bears entire contribution.
Jaminan Kematian — death benefit of Rp42,000,000 lump sum plus funeral costs and monthly benefit for dependents for 24 months.
🛒 VAT Rates
PPN (Pajak Pertambahan Nilai) raised from 10% to 11% effective April 2022. 12% rate was proposed for 2025 but deferred by President Prabowo. Basic necessities (rice, staple foods, healthcare, education) are exempt (0%). Exported goods: 0%. Some luxury goods subject to PPnBM (Sales Tax on Luxury Goods) in addition to PPN.

🌍 Special Expat Tax Rules
Digital Nomad Visa (E33G) holders working exclusively for foreign companies: not taxed on foreign-source income in Indonesia regardless of days present. KITAS holders working in Indonesia: resident tax rates apply after 183 days in Indonesia in a 12-month period. Non-residents (under 183 days): flat 20% withholding tax on Indonesian-source income. Tax treaty provisions may reduce withholding rates. NPWP mandatory for all taxable residents. SPT Tahunan (annual tax return) filed by 31 March via djponline.pajak.go.id.

Indonesia has 70+ active Double Tax Avoidance Agreements (DTAs/P3B) including with: USA, UK, Germany, Netherlands, France, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, China, India, UAE, Canada, Switzerland, Belgium, Italy, Spain, and most ASEAN and OECD countries. Treaties generally reduce or eliminate withholding tax on dividends (typically 10–15%), interest (10%), and royalties (10–15%). Claim via DGT Form 1 submitted to DJP.
