Quarantine duration: 7 days minimum quarantine at Indonesian quarantine facility (Balai Karantina Pertanian) upon arrival. If documents are complete and animal is healthy, may be shortened to 3–5 days at inspector discretion. Quarantine at Soekarno-Hatta airport facility (Jakarta) or Ngurah Rai (Bali) — not at home. Quarantine costs: Rp300,000–800,000/day.

Breakdown: health certificate from licensed USDA/DEFRA accredited vet (USD 100–300), international rabies titer test (USD 150–300, required if coming from non-rabies-free country), import permit processing (Rp500,000–1,500,000), airline pet cargo fee (USD 200–600 each way), Indonesian quarantine facility fee (7 days: Rp2,100,000–5,600,000), customs release fee. Using a professional pet relocation company (Happy Tails Travel, Air Animal, Jetpets) strongly recommended: USD 500–2,000 additional but avoids document errors.
📋 Relocation Process
1. Microchip pet (ISO 11784/11785 standard, 15-digit). 2. Administer all required vaccinations after microchipping. 3. Wait 30 days after rabies vaccination (some countries require 6-month wait + titre test). 4. Apply for Indonesian import recommendation via Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan): barantan.go.id — submitted 14–30 days before arrival. 5. Obtain official health certificate from accredited vet in origin country (within 7–14 days of travel). 6. Book pet cargo space with IATA-compliant airline (Garuda Indonesia, Singapore Airlines, Qatar Airways, etc.). 7. Arrive at Indonesian port of entry with all documents. 8. Pet held at Quarantine Station — owner cannot stay with pet. 9. Collect after quarantine clearance with full vet examination.
Indonesia takes pet importation seriously due to historical rabies control concerns — particularly in Bali which declared a rabies emergency 2008–2013. Bali has additional provincial restrictions on importing dogs from other Indonesian islands without proper certification. Cats are generally easier to import than dogs. Indonesia prohibits importing pets from countries classified as rabies-affected without completed titre test documentation (FAVN test proving sufficient rabies antibody levels). Allow 3–4 months of preparation before planned travel with a pet. Pet food import: personal quantities allowed; commercial quantities require separate import permit. Indonesian vet fees: consultation Rp100,000–200,000, vaccinations Rp80,000–200,000 per vaccine.
