Most expat families use state schools or the private independent sector: King William's College (GCSEs, A Levels, and IB Diploma; 2025/26 day fees approximately GBP 14,793–21,036/year = £4,931–7,012/term × 3 terms; boarding approx. University

Tuition fee

University College Isle of Man (UCM) offers BTEC, HNC, HND, and foundation-degree-level courses as well as some undergraduate programmes in partnership with UK universities. Fees are lower than mainland UK for IOM-resident students. Many students travel to universities in the United Kingdom and are subject to UK-equivalent tuition fee rules (up to GBP 9,250/year in England, with separate Scottish, Welsh, and Northern Irish fee arrangements). IOM-resident students' eligibility for UK student loans differs from that of UK-domiciled students — confirm with Student Finance Isle of Man (gov.im/studentfinance).

Semester fee

Varies by course and provider. No semester transport-ticket system. UCM and UK university partnerships may charge registration, materials, and activity fees in addition to tuition.

Student visa

British and Irish citizens move freely. Non-British/Irish students must check Isle of Man immigration rules carefully: the IOM is a Crown Dependency and not part of the UK's points-based immigration system. The IOM has its own immigration framework administered by the Isle of Man Immigration. A UK Student visa does not automatically cover the Isle of Man.

Health insurance

IOM-resident students who qualify for Manx Care (the Island's health authority) are covered for most medical needs on the Island. Students travelling to UK universities should register with the NHS at their university location. International students should confirm Manx Care eligibility and hold supplementary private health insurance for gaps or treatment abroad.

Application process

Apply to UCM directly via ucm.ac.im. For UK universities, use UCAS (ucas.com) with standard A Level or equivalent qualifications. IOM applicants follow the same UCAS process as UK applicants but should verify fee and loan entitlements separately.
