Payment Culture

Cash is widely used, especially outside Kingston and tourist areas. Visa/Mastercard accepted at major supermarkets, hotels and restaurants. Many smaller businesses and markets prefer cash. USD is informally accepted in tourist zones but change is given in JMD.

ATM Tips

ATMs dispense JMD. Notify your home bank before travel. NCB, Scotiabank and JN Bank ATMs are most reliable. Standalone ATMs at petrol stations and malls charge higher fees. Daily withdrawal limits vary J$40,000–J$150,000 per card.

Exchange Tips

Cambios (licensed foreign-exchange dealers) offer better rates than hotels. Bureau de change at Sangster International Airport has competitive rates. Always compare the JMD/USD rate before exchanging. Avoid street money changers.
