Key Documents Checklist
Gather these before and after moving to Jamaica.
Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond intended stay. Required for all immigration and official processes in Jamaica.
Required for school enrolment, TRN (Tax Registration Number) application, marriage registration, citizenship applications and many administrative tasks.
Required for work permit applications, residency applications and CBI processes. Must be from your home country and any country of residence in the past 5 years.
Required for spousal visas, name-change documentation, joint bank accounts and estate matters. Must be authenticated.
Degrees and professional certificates needed for work permit applications, professional registration with Jamaican bodies (e.g., Medical Council, Nursing Council) and employer verification.
Required for work permit and residency applications. Must be issued by an approved Jamaican or foreign physician within 3–6 months of application.
Jamaica's individual tax identifier, issued by Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ). Required to open a bank account, sign a lease, obtain a driver's licence, collect a salary and register a business. Apply at any TAJ office.
Issued by the Ministry of Labour and Social Security. Required for employment, payroll deductions, and claiming NIS benefits. Employees should receive this from their employer on joining.
Utility bill, bank statement or tenancy agreement in your name. Required for bank account opening, driver's licence, TRN card and many government applications.
Required for non-Jamaican, non-CARICOM citizens to take employment in Jamaica. Issued by the Ministry of Labour and Social Security. Employer usually sponsors the application.
Job offer letter or employment contract required for work permit and many residency applications. Should state role, salary, duration and status of work.
Letter from your home or existing bank confirming account standing and relationship. Required for Jamaican bank account opening and some property and business applications.
Bank statements for the last 3–6 months required for residency, investment visa and property purchase financing. Source of funds must be clear.
Yellow fever vaccination certificate required for arrivals from countries with yellow fever risk. General health records useful for healthcare registration. Childhood vaccination records needed for school enrolment.
📜 What is an Apostille?
An apostille is an official certification that validates a document for international use. It is issued by a designated authority in the country where the document was issued (usually a court or government office). Required for documents from Hague Convention member states.
🌍 Certified Translations
Certified translations must be done by a sworn/authorised translator. In Jamaica, only translations by officially registered translators are accepted by government offices. Keep originals — they may be returned after verification.
