🌍 Special Expat Tax Rules
There is no blanket expat tax regime in Jamaica. Expats are taxed as residents on worldwide income if resident (183+ days/year or if Jamaica is their principal place of abode). Non-residents are taxed only on Jamaican-source income. The income tax threshold applies equally to residents and qualified non-residents employed in Jamaica. NHT contributions are refundable for foreigners who leave permanently — apply at the NHT within the limitation period.
📋 Double Tax Treaties
Jamaica has double tax treaties with: United Kingdom, United States, Canada, CARICOM member states, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, China, Israel and several others. A treaty may reduce withholding taxes on dividends, interest and royalties. US citizens and Green Card holders are subject to worldwide taxation regardless of residence and must file US returns annually. Expats from treaty countries should verify which treaty applies to their situation with a tax adviser.
