Quarantine duration: Typically 1–5 days inspection quarantine at the Norman Manley or Sangster Airport veterinary facility, or possibly longer if documentation is incomplete or vaccination periods not met. Not a full kennel quarantine in most cases for dogs and cats from approved low-risk countries, but inspection is mandatory.

📋 Relocation Process

1. Microchip your pet (ISO 11784/11785 standard). 2. Complete required vaccinations — rabies must be administered at least 21 days before import, with no more than 1 year elapsed. 3. Obtain a health certificate from a licensed veterinarian in your country of origin (must be issued within 7–14 days of travel). 4. Apply for an import permit from the Veterinary Services Division (VSD) of the Ministry of Agriculture in Jamaica — allow 4–6 weeks. 5. Arrange airline transport (cargo or cabin depending on pet size and airline rules). 6. On arrival, present permit, health certificate and vaccination records to the VSD inspection officer at the airport.

Jamaica has strict biosecurity protocols to protect its agricultural sector. Non-compliance can result in your pet being refused entry or placed in extended quarantine at your expense. Start the process at least 3–4 months before travel. The Veterinary Services Division (VSD) website is the authoritative source — rules can change. Birds and exotic animals face more stringent restrictions under CITES. Rabbits, rodents and ferrets may face additional or different import conditions — verify with VSD.
