👶 Childcare & Kindergarten
Contact private nurseries directly. Most require: birth certificate, immunisation record, and completed registration form. Popular areas: Belize City, Belmopan, and San Pedro (Ambergris Caye).
Government-funded infant schools exist throughout Belize. Most are operated by religious denominations (Catholic, Methodist) under government grant. Nominally free but small contributions may be requested.
Enroll at the nearest government infant school in the first week of August before the September intake. Bring child's birth certificate, immunisation card, and parent's proof of address.
🏫 Schools
Enroll at the nearest district primary school by presenting: child's birth certificate, immunisation/vaccination card, previous school records if transferring, and parent's proof of address. The school year runs September–June. Uniforms required.
Entry to secondary school is based on Primary School Examination (PSE) results. Students apply to their preferred secondary school using PSE scores. Tuition: BZ$200–600/year for government-subsidised schools; BZ$1,000–3,000+/year for private secondary schools.
🌍 International Schools
Belize has no large-market international school sector. Main options for expat families: QSI International School of Belize (belize.qsi.org, Cayo District/Belmopan, ages 5–13, American-model curriculum in English, contact the school for current fees); private English-medium schools in Belize City (Belize Elementary School, Belize High School); and options on Ambergris Caye (San Pedro). For full IB continuum or A-Level programmes, most families must consider home-schooling, online international programmes, or schools across the border. Annual fees at private English-medium schools generally range from BZ$3,000–15,000/year. Confirm current enrolment status and fees directly with any school before relocating.
🎓 University
Apply directly to the University of Belize online or at the admissions office. Foreign qualifications (GCSE, A-levels, IB, SAT, AP) are accepted. Mature students welcome.
🗣️ Language Courses
Spanish is widely spoken in Belize, especially in Cayo, Orange Walk, and Corozal Districts. Learning Spanish is extremely practical for daily life and integration in Spanish-majority areas.
English is the official language of Belize; most government and business interaction is in English. Non-English speakers (e.g., Guatemalan immigrants) can access literacy programmes through BTVET.
