EU Citizens

EU citizens receive no preferential treatment for Belizean work permits. EU nationals require a standard work permit applied for by their employer. The employer pays the permit fee (BZ$500–2,000/year).

Non-EU Citizens

All non-Belizean nationals require a work permit issued by the Labour Department before commencing employment. The employer files the application with: a job offer letter, evidence that no qualified Belizean is available for the role, the employee's passport copy, police clearance, and medical certificate. Processing: 4–12 weeks. Work permits are tied to a specific employer; changing jobs requires a new permit application.

EU Blue Card

Belize has no EU Blue Card equivalent.

Freelancer Visa

No specific freelancer or digital nomad visa exists in Belize as of 2026.
