Commemorates the Black January massacre of 1990 when Soviet troops killed civilians in Baku. A solemn day of national mourning; Alley of Martyrs is visited by thousands.

Widely celebrated public holiday. Men typically give flowers to women in their lives.

Spring Equinox New Year — the most important Azerbaijani cultural celebration. A five-day public holiday (March 20–24) marking the Persian/Turkic New Year. Bonfires, traditional foods, spring cleaning and family gatherings.

Final day of Novruz holidays. When Novruz falls on a weekend, compensatory days are added.

End of Ramadan — one of the two main Islamic holidays. Two-day public holiday. 2026 approximate date: March 20 (1 Shawwal 1448 AH). Exact date subject to moon-sighting confirmation.

Second day of Eid al-Fitr public holiday.

Shared with the former Soviet calendar. Military parades and commemorations in Baku.

Celebrates the founding of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic on 28 May 1918 — the first democratic republic in the Muslim world.

The Feast of Sacrifice — one of the two main Islamic holidays. Two-day public holiday. 2026 approximate date: May 27 (10 Dhul Hijja 1448 AH). Lamb or goat is sacrificed and meat shared with family and the poor.

Second day of Qurban Bayramı.

Commemorates Heydar Aliyev's return to power in 1993. Named National Salvation Day.

Celebrates the founding of the Azerbaijan Armed Forces in 1918.
