Annual vaccination (dog or cat): £60–100. Routine vet check-up: £50–90. Neutering (dog): £200–400. Animal Health Certificate (AHC) for Spain crossing: £80–150 per trip. Emergency vet consultation: £100–200. Pet insurance (dog): £200–600/year.
📋 Relocation Process
1. Microchip your pet (ISO 11784/11785 standard). 2. Administer rabies vaccination (at least 21 days before travel). 3. From EU: obtain Animal Health Certificate (AHC) from an Official Veterinarian (OV) in the country of departure within 10 days of travel. 4. From UK: obtain valid UK pet travel document or UK AHC from OV within 10 days of travel. 5. Dogs: tapeworm treatment (Echinococcus) within 1–5 days before entry. 6. Present AHC and documents at Gibraltar border. 7. No quarantine if all documentation is in order. 8. Register with a Gibraltar vet on arrival.
Critical post-Brexit issue: Gibraltar is treated as a "third country" by the EU/Spain for pet travel. Each time you take your Gibraltar/UK pet into Spain, your pet requires a new AHC issued within 10 days — the old pet passport format no longer works for Gibraltar-Spain crossings. This is a practical hardship for Gibraltar pet owners who regularly cross to La Línea. As of 2026, the UK-EU Gibraltar treaty negotiations have not resolved this.
